Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
God’s love for His children is so evident in everything that He does! He never ceases to amaze me! His wisdom is so precious in every way. His word has an answer for everything and following His way always brings a perfect solution to every problem.
The Lord knows, of course, how our daily lives are controlled by the thoughts that we allow to fill our mind. He knows, it is those thoughts, which produce our attitude and our actions. Therefore, because He loves us and wants all of His children to live victorious and peaceful lives, He tells us exactly how, by His grace, we can think His way.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
I sincerely believe God could transform our lives, simply by taking this one verse and daily putting it into practice. Let’s just see a little of the precious truth God has for us here. This is how our mind can be renewed and filled with all the goodness of God! There is a whole world full of misery and woe around us, but God says:
“… think on these things.”
God tells us to think on: whatsoever things are true
Notice he did not say, things we have heard, or things we think are true, or might be true nor even those that are most likely true. He just said, “things that are true.” I don’t know about you but that one alone would filter out a whole lot of what I often spend my time thinking about.
Then God says: whatsoever things are honest.
It not only must be absolutely true, but something that is honest. That will trim more of my daily thoughts. Shall we go on?
Next, we see: whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
Well now, God tells us not just true and honest, but just and pure! Surely, He doesn’t really mean for us to rule out all the thoughts that fail to fit into all these categories? Well, I’ll let you answer that question for yourselves.
Oh, but the Lord continues, He wants us to think on: whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,
Let’s see, True, Honest, Just, Pure, Lovely, Of good report, if it is of any virtue and praiseworthy. This is God’s perfect filter for our thoughts.
Can we stop and consider what a blessing this would be in our lives? What a difference it would make! The next time I find myself, troubled by dwelling on this or that, what if I started at the top of this list and allowed the Lord to renew my mind? No telling what might happen. It might even leave me with a bright, peaceful smile on my face, like the one our young Brother Grant, wears so often!
“…think on these things.”
