Precious, Beyond Measure!

August 20, 2017

Psalms 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

We’ve heard of the importance of God’s word most, if not all of our lives. But, what is it that makes God’s word so precious?  Why does the Lord even tell us that His word is more necessary than the food we eat? What could possibly make it so valuable?

Let’s look at just a few of the reasons why we, as God’s children must give His word such high priority in our daily lives.

First of all, we see that it is the source of our salvation.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

If this were the only reason, it would certainly be reason enough.

Secondly, God’s word, is the standard for our steps.

Psalms 119:59 I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.

How would we know what is good and right if it were not for the direction of the scriptures?

Next it is the sustainer of our spiritual strength

Psalms 119:28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.

Where, but in Gods’ word, can the believer find strength to face all the raging battles of this life?  The world is full opinions and philosophies, one being about as useless as the other. Real sustaining strength is found only in the wisdom of Gods’ truth!

Also, Gods’ word is so precious because it is our only shield from sin and Satan!

Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Without the word of God, there is no way any of us would ever even know what sin was, much less how to resist it.

Lastly, we see, it is the substance of our success!

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

No doubt, spiritual success is what we all want more than anything else. Pleasing the One who loved us and paid such a great price for us, is our hearts’ most fervent desire.  And our loving heavenly Father, has provided all we need to do just that.

God has blessed us with a copy of the inspired, inerrant Word of God! He has blessed us with the Spirit of God to guide us into all truth!  He has blessed us with a man of God, who searches the scriptures and seeks Gods’ face, so he can lead us and help us in understanding what the Lord wants in our lives. And it is all according to His Word which is truly precious beyond measure!

The Sure Foundation of the Gospel!

Aug 13, 2017

2Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Let’s look at why this one sure foundation of the gospel of Jesus Christ is LOVE!

Was it not LOVE, that moved God the Father to give His beloved Son to save us from our sins?

1John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Was it not LOVE that motivated Jesus Christ to give Himself for us?

Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Was it not LOVE, that meshed the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, into our hearts, so He could guide us into all truth?

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Is it not LOVE, that molds us with the Hand of the Potter into a vessel fit for the Master’s use?

Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Is it not LOVE, that manifests to the world that we are indeed followers of Jesus Christ?

John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Is it not LOVE, that makes our hearts continually seek to please the Lord in all that we do?

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Is it not LOVE, that ministers to us through the hearts and hands of our brothers and sisters when we have need?

1John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Yes, the very sure foundation of the gospel. The Father, the Son, the Spirit and the children unified for all eternity by the unconditional, unchanging, all-knowing, all-powerful, ever present LOVE of our Creator God!

John 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

No doubt, in the day and time in which we live, one of the greatest ways God’s children can glorify our Heavenly Father and magnify our Saviour, is by allowing His peace to shine forth brightly in our daily lives.

The world around us is absolutely overwhelmed with insecurity, instability, inconsistency, insincerity, injustice and out and out insanity!

Romans 3:16-18 Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes

What better way could there possibly be to let the world see Christ in us?  We, who have been so undeservedly blessed, having been given peace with God through the shed blood of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, The Prince of Peace!

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

It is for this very reason, that I am convinced the flesh, the devil and the world work so hard trying to keep the saints of God from walking in the peace of God.  Satan wants us to live in the flesh and conform to the world so we will be full of fear, frustration, fretting and fighting.

God, however has given His children a perfect prescription for peace, a peace that the world knows nothing about, His Peace!

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Unlike the world, the peace Christ gives is not dependent upon surroundings, situations or circumstances.  His peace can shine during the raging storm, through deepest darkest valley and while facing the fiercest temptation and trial. God’s peace is beyond human understanding.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

This peace comes from Christ in us, it is the fruit of the Holy Ghost of God. This is the peace that filled the three Hebrew children in the midst of the fiery furnace. This peace is the peace that filled Daniel in the den of hungry lions. This peace is the peace that filled Paul and Silas, as they sang praises to God in the darkness of the Philippian dungeon.  And this is the peace that can fill you, regardless of what you may be walking through right now.  It is this peace that will enable those around you to see the light of Christ shining brightly, no matter how dark and dreary this world may become!

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Rom 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

What would God’s children do without His truth?  The fact is God’s truth is the very foundation of all creation! Without His truth there would be NOTHING!

Colossians 1:15-17 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Through the scriptures we see that:

  1. God’s Truth is an Eternal Truth!  It will never change.

Psalms 117:2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD.

  1. God’s Truth is an Encompassing Truth!  It covers everything.

 Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

    3.  God’s truth is an Examining Truth!  It reveals men’s hearts.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

   4.   God’s Truth is an Empowering Truth! It is the power of God.

Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

   5.   God’s Truth is an Edifying Truth! It strengthens the church.

Ephesians 4:11-12 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

   6.   God’s Truth is an Earnest Truth! Its’ commands are serious.

Hebrews 2:1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

   7.  God’s Truth is an Elating Truth! It brings believers great joy!

Rom 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

The Mighty Hand of God

Deuteronomy 7:8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

It was a blessing last week, during the morning coffee shop fellowship!  The Lord used Brother Otwell to remind us of the great and powerful God we serve!

He mentioned David before he became king, just a lad tending his father’s sheep. How because of the mighty hand of our God upon him, he was able to single handedly kill both a lion and a bear. It was these victories which gave young David the faith to know this same Mighty God, would enable him to defeat Goliath, the fearsome giant warrior of the Philistines.

1Samuel 17:45-47 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.

David was not hesitant to let everyone know, who had given him these miraculous victories!  He proclaimed to the whole world then and for centuries to come, that the mighty hand of His God was able to defeat any enemy!

Brothers and Sisters, this very same God, who destroyed Pharaoh and brought the children of Israel out of bondage. The  One who delivered the giant Goliath into the hand of a young shepherd boy, is still delivering today!  This same mighty hand, redeemed us from the bondage of sin and Satan forever, Halleluiah!

Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

The scriptures have so many powerful stories of great victories wrought by the mighty hand of our Almighty God!  They are all true and they are all there to remind us that He has not changed.  The mighty hand of our Heavenly Father, our King, is still just as mighty and powerful as it ever was.  And He is ever faithful and ready to deliver us from any enemy that comes our way!

1Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

The Lord has given us the Position!   His People 1Peter 2:9-10

The Lord has given us the Purpose!   His Will 1Peter 4:19

The Lord has given us the Plan!         His Word 1Peter 1:25

The Lord has given us the Power!      His Spirit 2Peter 1:3-4

The Lord has given us the Promise!   His Presence 1Peter 3:12

1Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

It’s All About “the Why!”

July 16, 2017

No doubt, we have all found ourselves in circumstances or situations for which we cannot find an answer.  We just simply do not understand, “the why” of what is happening in our lives. There is, as always, an answer in God’s Word.  An answer which can bring you peace and comfort regardless what it is you may be facing, if you will simply trust His word to be true, for you.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Here in John 3:16 we see “why,” our merciful Heavenly Father gave us the greatest gift that could ever be given!  For God so loved…”

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20 and 1 John 3:16 tell us plainly, why, God the Son was willing to allow wicked men to nail Him to an “old rugged cross.” the Son of God who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

1John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us

And again, why on earth, did God choose to save wicked, sinful men and women, boys and girls who cared nothing about Him?

Ephesians 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Yes, you are right, it was because He loved you!

1John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

That must mean, that there is but one reason, you and I have been chosen to be the very children of God Almighty Himself! “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us…”

Thus, because He does, so love us. We, being imperfect children of our all-wise Perfect, Holy Father in heaven, there will obviously come times of pruning, molding and discipline.

Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

You, my brother or sister, need not fear.  However, fierce the enemy or powerful and dark the storm, there is One with you and in you who truly does love you with an unspeakably, wonderful and eternal love!

Romans 8:37-39 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Love is forever, “the Why!”

July 9, 2017

Isn’t it overwhelming when you are reminded anew of all that our precious Saviour did for you.

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

It is YOU, Jesus Christ loves!

John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

It is YOU, Jesus Christ has chosen!

John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

It is YOU, the Lord Jesus made alive!

Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

It is YOU, who God has forgiven for all your sins!

Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

It is YOU, in whom Jesus Christ has begun a good work and will continue it to the end!

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

It is YOU, to whom Jesus Christ has given His peace!

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

It is YOU, the Lord Jesus has given fullness of joy!

John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

It is YOU, in whom Jesus sent the Comforter, to dwell!

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

And after doing all of this and so much more for YOU, what is it that He asks of us in return?

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Romans 5:1-2

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

A Priceless Gift!

Praise God what a gift!  God the Father, so loved us that He gave His only begotten Son, the Living Word of God!

John 1:1, 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

In the amazing, matchless wisdom of our Creator, He gave unto His Son something which He lovingly passed on to all His earthly children.

John 17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

Hallelujah to God! The Living Word, became flesh and brought with Him, for us, this priceless gift, THE WORDS of GOD!

A love letter, delivered personally from our “Beloved” to His Bride!

These words, as all gifts from our blessed Saviour, are not just any words, they are, first of all, PURE WORDS!

Psalms 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Oh, the glorious purity of the words of our Father!

  1. They are PRECIOUS WORDS!

2Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

1Peter 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

No, nothing on earth more precious than the words of our dear Saviour!

  1. They are PEACEFUL WORDS!

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

There is only one source for that peace that passeth all understanding!

  1. They are POWERFUL WORDS!

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Praise the Lord! Powerful enough to transform a hopeless, helpless, lost sinner, into a born-again child of the Living God!

When We Think!

June 25, 2017

Ephesians 3:20-21 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Did you ever just take a moment and seriously and sincerely stop and consider the indescribable magnificence of our God?  Every time I even attempt to describe His wisdom and His wonder, I feel as if I’ve not even begun to scratch the surface of our glorious Father in heaven!  The older I get and the more I learn from God’s Word and the more I see the Lord work in my own life and in the lives of others around me, the more I want to learn and see!

Yet, despite all this I still find myself sometimes struggling through storms, thrashing through trials and temptations. I even find myself fighting off thoughts of doubt, defeat and despair.

Slowly, ever so slowly, I am learning, as He is patiently teaching me more and more, about just how wonderfully magnificent He is!

Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

The Lord wants us all to know:

When we think that He doesn’t, He surely DOES!

It is when you find ourselves in the very depths of the valley of despair, the devil sends his demons to tell you that the Lord neither knows nor cares about your situation and how you feel. But He does, He surely does! I’m sure they whispered to Hannah that God did not care how badly her heart ached for a son and they surely told Job, as he struggled to understand why all this had happened to him, that he was forsaken and forgotten. What lies are they telling you?

We’ve read the stories and know that the Lord was watching over them in tender love each and every minute, waiting for that perfect moment when He would, once again reveal Himself and remind them of His ever-faithful grace and mercy.

Hebrews 2:17-18 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

When we think that He won’t, He surely WILL!

Yes, many times it is at the very time when we think that God is not going to conquer this difficulty for us, He is not going to cure this disease, He is not going to comfort us in this distress. It is then that He does.

James had already been martyred. Peter lay bound in prison with only hours before his scheduled execution. Perhaps he had resigned himself to death, but God had other plans!  Don’t give up on the Lord, He is going to finish the work He started!

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Lastly, when we think He can’t, He surely CAN!

Our God is surely “able to do exceeding, abundantly above all that we can ask or think,…”  There is no situation, nor circumstance; no trial nor temptation from which our God cannot bring you out wondrously victorious in Christ!

Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
